The International Airport is built 4 Km (2.5 Miles) south east of Chora Town (the capital) of the island. The IATA code used to refer to the Mykoso Airport is JMK. All passenger flights are located in one terminal. The airport is also called Hephaistos (or Ifestos) Airport. Hephaistos, according to the Greek mythology, was son of Zeus and Hera the king and queen of the gods.
It is well connected with other major Greek cities and islands as well as with major European capitals and cities via charter flights. Travelers from USA, Canada, Australia and other non-European countries that wish to come to Mykonos, must get a connect flight in Athens (the capital of Greece) or another European country that has charter flights to Mykonos.

Mykonos island is located almost in the centre of theCyclades complex, on the central of the Aegean Sea, between the islands of Tinos, Syros, Paros, Naxos and Ios. As there are no international flights to these islands, travelers usually book a flight to Athens, Mykonos or Santorini and then a catch a ferry to their destination. During summer, there are also daily domestic flights from Athens to Paros, Naxos, Syros and Santorini.
